Storms is one of my favorite Stevie songs so i was really looking forward to hearing it live, even though i did not like the bootlegs i had heard so far .
Having heard it live twice now , i have to say that i still prefer the album version. Mainly because Stevie sings it delicately, almost as if she has to make an effort not to cry. Live she almost belts it out .

Then yesterday i was explaining this to my husband and to prove my point i first played him the live version from the Rotterdam concert, and then the version on Tusk. And only then did it appear to me as if the live performance is slower .(and therefore becomes a bit boring if i may say so

)
Has anyone else noticed this too ?
Hmm.. i never noticed this before. I'm going to have to look into this when i get a chance to listen to both versions
Oh, The livesong is never ever going to conquer the original Tusk version. But I must say that the version of Rotterdam was the best one I've heard from the boots 'till now.
can someone share the rotterdam version? or the entire concert, for that matter?
storms is sweet candy for all of us die hards, but it will never be as good as the original. i think we all wanted it to happen because they had NEVER done it before, but i agree entirely with suzy. it's sung so delicately on the album, she could have been singing "don't worry, be happy" and it would have been sad. well, sad in two ways

that song slays me, but how can you recreate that in a stadium with thousands of people? you can't.
She ruins a lot of her vocals these days, both onstage & in studio, because of that full-voice nasally thing she always does. I get totally sick of it. She fucks up Storms live, Candlebright on the album, & dozens of others.
I'm tired of blaming her vocal coach, too. From now on, I blame her.
Maybe she's just trying to be heard over the 24 instruments in Fleetwood Mac? Maybe if the rest of them would shut up, she'd be able to reintroduce that fantastic whispery style she used to have.

exactly. and while we're at it, i hate backup singers. i loved it back in the day when just her, chris and lindsey were harmonizing. now she has sharon, lori and whomever else to fall back on, and pick up the slack when she can't hit her notes.
I could lose the backing singers but it's not like there are that many instruments. There is Lindsey, Mick, John doing what they always did. Brett playing keys to replace Christine and Neale adding some guitar. At least it's nowhere near as bad as on the SYW tour with yet another additional guitarist and an additional percussionist.

But Peestie, Brett is worth about five ordinary people! He brings so much hardware onstage with him. He has more workstations whirring away, onstage & off, that it's probably like Space Mountain at Disneyland.

True, but still, don't overstretch it. They still do a fabulous NGBA, Big Love, Landslide, ISA, GYOW etc. with not the whole samplegear in full motion. By the way, Brett was there six years ago too with all the keys and tricks.
And she sang Storms in Rotterdam, as she sang dreams. This time not reciting, but singing. With all the lost range and subtlety on board it was still beautiful. And if you read the reviews of the dutch serious press, you'll see that not only the hardcore fan heard that.
I hate how she sang Dreams in the US-legs. But to my ears something happened here. Not a lot, but something that tinkled.

I agree to some point because if you listen to Call On Me For Magic it's obvious she can still sing in that fantastic whispery style. Only problem is that live,in concert, her voice is not strong enough anymore to be heared over everything else. In the studio that can be fixed and then we hear the old Stevie again (imo)
Landslide live still sounds great to me but that is because her voice only needs to compete with Lindseys' guitar.

No Peestie, you're wrong. Just read in a Belgian review of last month's concert here in Antwerp that there were 2 extra guitarists, 1 extra drummer and they had 4 backup singers amongst which Steie's niece

Still feel she belts out Storms instead of singing it and thus ruins it

I've long suspected her, as a Depends user.

Depends or hankerchief for the tears? Whaevah.
This is not just belting. The subtlety here. Ofcourse NOT in the amount of the original but that is 30 years ago and simply unbeatable.
Oh, and Lindsey's singing on Storms and Sara is fucking beautiful.
no response? come on. At least 4 people downloaded it. Let me hear what you think of it!
I'm going to get skewered for this, but I've not DL'd it. I've always found Storms to be the most boring, and my least favorite, song on Tusk. It just kinda lays there. Like Stevy on a roofie(sp).
I.WILL.DOWNLOAD.THIS.THIS.AFTERNOON.
omg, i'm so excited. even though it'll never match the original, it's still my first live version of storms.
thanks gerald
