Ok, we're back and i have finally sat myself down to upload my pictures and tell you about our trip.
We picked up our rental car saturday morning and i fortunately had the good sense to also rent a GPS and an EZ-pass.
Before leaving Belgium i had printed out the driving instructions to and from the Keswick, and i'm sure we would have found it
in time but i'm also convinced that we would never ever have found our way back in the middle of the night ( in spite of all
the candelabra's you lit for us Betsy )
So after enjoying some beautiful autumn colors on the way down there we arrived in Glenside after only 1 and a half hours.
Glenside is a small pretty village and even though it was a bit chilly the sun was out and the sky was deep blue. A great day in other words.
We parked behind the theater and when heading for the street we saw the big equipment truck and the roadies unloading all the stuff.
After taking a walk around the village we ended up at the theater again and decided to hang around in case Lindsey would show up.
Another guy (Brian) also seemed to be waiting and after awhile he came up to us and we got talking about LB ,music and politics. Of course i asked him if he was
on The Chain or The Ledge, but he was not.
Around 3.30 we moved to the artist entry and there we met Jackie (Highwaywoman) ,Gail, Brooke and Greg. We hung around for the
rest of the afternoon ( i still cannot believe myself; acting like a 52 year old teenager ) but were finally told that there would be no soundcheck.
By then we were also joined by a guy named Eric and a Norwegian couple who like Otto and myself, had come to the States especially for the
Keswick and Nokia shows.
In the meantime the sun had gone from where we were standing and we were literally freezing our butts off.
But like troopers we waited and around 6 the big van arrived and Wally,Brett,Neale and Lindsey got out. It happened so fast i could not even take a picture (probably because
my hands were frozen by then). Lindsey said they had no time , maybe after the show. So we went for dinner with Jackie,Gail,Brooke and Greg.
And then came the show. It was so fantastic to see Lindsey again and as has been said by so many people : he is in great voice ! That man is just amazing .
Before the show started, i noticed a blonde at the stage, holding a huge camera and looking bored. I looked a bit closer and yes; it was Mrs.Buckingham.
saw her taking pictures during the first 3 songs and then lost sight of her . Lindsey never said a word about his wife being in the audience that night, just the usual spiel about having met a beautiful woman 11 years ago blablabla...
I never really cared about SUD but the way he is playing it now really got to me . Maybe it has to do with his voice i dunno, but i did not like the hoarse whispering
way of singing on UTS and i'm glad he stopped doing that. TPT is unbelievable ( when i looked at his hands it seemed as though he had 10 fingers on each one and somehow
they reminded me of tarantulas crawling )
We had great seats ; rightside of the stage, 5th row, great view. I also met another fan from The Ledge , Mike (Minilindsey) who had a seat right in front of the stage (lucky bastard ). Security was not too strict; i got my camera in without any problems and took a lot of pictures but waited until after GYOW before i started taking them.
Only after about 50 pictures the camera nazi signalled Otto that i should stop. Security also wanted people to get back in their seats during GYOW but Lindsey motioned the crowd to get closer so security had to back off.
After the show we went back to the artist's entry and waited untill Lindsey came out. By then there were a lot of people and of course we were standing on the wrong side,
so i did not get an autograph or my picture taken with him, but i did see him from fairly up close, which is enough for me. Last year i was lucky so see a full soundcheck, this year
i got close after the show and at the Nokia i got up front and nearly had the man's sweatdrops fly into my face. So next time i'm sure i'll get my picture or autograph.
I'm just working my way up there you know.
After saying goodbye to Jacky,Gail,Brooke,Greg,Eric and the Norwegians we were recognized by a guy named Will (Say You Will on the Ledge) who had seen
our pictures on The Ledge that afternoon and came to say hi. I had posted them because Jackie had asked how she would recognize me.
So, the next day we moved to our hotel in Manhattan (and we got an upgrade to a suite!) and went to the Nokia at 5 to pick up our tickets.
We were standing on the sidewalk, figuring out which way to go to get to Virgil's where we were to meet Pedro (CarneVaca) and his friend, when two people came up to us
and the guy said "you're Suzy and Otto from Belgium ". He too had seen our pictures on The Ledge that afternoon and he was there for the show with Pattie (WelshWitchPMD).
It was kinda fun to be recognized like that on the streets of NYC, i could get used to it.
Well, we found Virgil's and i immediately recognized Pedro from the picture on his cd. We had dinner together and the men had some drinks (i had a cold by then and stuck
to tea and lemon) and you're right Gerald ; Pedro is such a nice guy. It felt as if i had known him for a long time already. And his friend John is really nice too (especially now that he has turned into an LB fan himself)
The Nokia show to me was better than the Keswick show. The sound was far better (i guess they should have done a soundcheck at the Keswick anyway) and i got up to
the stage when GYOW started and stayed there until the end. I had printed "Please come to Belgium Lindsey" on a white scarf and left it on the stage in hope that someone
would pick it up and show it to him. When we entered the theater i saw Lindsay Vannoy (who plays keyboards offstage behind Brett) and walked up to him to ask if he would give the scarf to Lindsey, but he said he could not do that and i should put it on the stage during GYOW, so i did. And who knows ? Maybe the second leg of this tour will be in Europe. One of the roadies read it (the one that looks like the brother of Jerry Garcia) and gave me some guitar picks (no,they're not Lindsey's but Neale's) Who knows what
the L.B. T.I. stands for ?
To round this off, i really had a great time over there and it was so much fun to finally meet some of the fans whose names i have known from the internet these past years.
Next time we should arrange a euro meet in the States (but not this year please as i need to spice up my savings account)
Anyway, enough blabbering, here is what you all want to see; the pictures . . . .
