To kick off the Peter Green forum, I thought I would ask - which Peter Green solo album should I start with?

I have seen "White Sky" and "Whatcha Gonna Do" in store a few times, and have considered picking one up - are they a good place to start? I must admit, I have only heard his stuff with the Mac, but I am interested.

^I think it's In the Skies, and it's pretty good!
I'd go with "In the Skies" as well, that was the first album after his first long lay-off, and I think it's his best solo album by a long way Smile "Whatcha Gonna Do" is where he was getting into a sort of reggae thing, and "White Sky" is also pretty good. "Little Dreamer" is the other good one from that era.

"Kolors" is a fairly dodgy bunch of outtakes, and "The End of the Game" is strictly for late evenings when you don't even know your own name Laughing
And, ANY of the Peter Green Splinter Group albums are great! My two faves of those are Destiny Road & Time Traders.

I like the Destiny Road version of "Tribal Dance" much more than the original version on In The Skies.

The best thing about the Kolors disc is that the original 45 version (the "acoustic" version) of "The Apostle" is on it. (Which I think is actually the superior of the two versions)

Yes, but just don't mention that version of "Bandit" Rolleyes

It's one of my favs too.. maybe 2nd fav.. but I couldn't really recommend it as a starting point Tongue

You'd have to really be a fan of both "Madge" tracks on Then Play On to "get" End Of The Game at a rudimentary level. It even goes a step further into the "improvisation" mode.

I've read/heard that there are some tracks left in the can from End Of The Game that were actually BETTER than what was released (which doesn't surprise me) and that there were plans for a remaster/reissue of End Of The Game not only with bonus tracks, but an entire bonus DISC! Dancin But, I read/heard that so long ago, I seriously doubt it will ever see the light of day. Sad
^^

Damn.. now THAT would be a fine thing.. how can anyone sit on unreleased stuff like that and not let it out? Mad
I haven't heard an ounce of Peter Green's solo work. Truth be told, I didn't actually know he had solo work. Definately something that I'll have to look up in the near future.

Except for maybe Bob Brunning and Bob Weston (?), I think every member of Fleetwood Mac has solo work or side projects. Even John with his "Gotta Band" - crappy though they were (despite the presence of Billy Burnette).

Where the hell have you been?

I believe Bob Weston released an album or two on his own in the 70s. He also recorded a wonderful, eclectic little album about ten years back called There's A Heaven, which I believe was distributed exclusively by The Penguin.

But please, Vicky, don't feed it.

I wasn't sure about Weston, hence the question mark.

Anyway, it just seemed stupid to me to be a Fleetwood Mac fan and yet be completely unaware of Green's solo work. I've never heard any of it myself, but I certainly knew that it exists.

I don't know, you're telling me.Laughing I've only been a fan for a few years, but that is still not an excuse not to know of his work, as his work with the Mac is AMAZING. So yeah, I feel bad about not knowing.
